This contemporary Suzani silk fabric is hand-embroidered in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The base is black color fabric with pomegranates and flower patterns. It is made by Bukhara couching (crochet embroidery/chain stitch) with cotton/silk thread on a 100% silk base.
Suzani is a traditional tribal fabric, hand-embroidered by women in Central Asia. It was usually made by a mother as a dowry for when her daughter gets married and presented to the groom on the wedding day. The daughter is then supposed to finish the unfinished part. Suzani comes from a Persian word, which means needle. Please have a look at our blog article "Bukhara contemporary Suzani from Uzbekistan" if you are interested.
